Reading Skills

The book I will be doing reading skills on is the book, Million Dollar Throw by Mike Lupica. When I was reading this book, I had noticed a lot of imagery used in the book such as, "The thunderous croud, full of all kinds of noises and faces, cheered for me as I released the ball and it sailed through the hole." I beleive that shows imagery because Lupica is telling the reader how the croud is full of differnt people with differnt sounds and faces, and by showing how loud they were by using the word thunderous. Lupica also uses some upper level diction words to explain a lot of his actions throughout the book.

Characters

The story that I will be analyzing the characters in would be my summer reading novel which would be, One Shot at Forever.   The main character would be the coach of the team. I would say that he is more of a dynamic character mainly because in the beginning he is a man who knows nothing about the game of baseball other than that they play nine innings and each team gets three out per inning. When he gets a call from a small high school that is in a teeny-tiny town that they want him to be they're school's baseball coach, the first thing he thinks is "Where exactly is that?" I feel that he is the whole reason that the plot develops and the theme, which would be "Hope is just a small thing and when one embraces that they have it, they can run away with it and do something great", carries out throughout the entire story keeping the reader on edge about what will the team think of a new coach in a new town? Once he figures out from the team strategies and more information about baseball, how it works, and where to put certain player in the field as well as in the batting order, he ends up being one of the best coaches that Macon, Illinois has ever seen. The coach specifically develops the plot and theme because given the fact that he didn't know anything about the game, the story would not have been nearly as exciting. He starts to connect with the players on his team and develops the plot by showing greater connections between each separate character in the story.

This is a very exhilarating book and I think that a plethora of people would enjoy reading it. If you want to read a more in depth look at the whole book, you can click here for a good summary or you can click here for a very, very brief summary that would most likely be something that would appear on the back of the book.

The plot sctructure me and my partner created was that we made a plot shape of an "M". This is to show how the story could be written in a more negative way and give more tension. We started with the word "Wolves" just to give more mystery about the story.

Book Recommendation

I would recommend the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins to anybody who likes action, high level reading books as well as who has not already read the book, or even seen the movie. It's full of action, suspense, conflicts, and it's even set in the future where they have futuristic technology that we don't have today. I would recommend this book to readers mainly from age 10 and up because the author uses some strong vocabulary in her writing that people under that age may not understand. She also incorporates a strong connection between the main character, Catniss, and her sister, Primrose, by making Catniss stand up for her sister and volunteer as tribute for the Hunger Games. This storyline ends up being an exhilerating adventure for the 24 tributes who are all risking their lives by getting selected for the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death for survival.  I believe it's a thrilling book and everybody who hasn't read the book, you're missing out.

1. The structure of each text was that they each tell about what's going on in real time, and then they each jump back in time to tell about something important that changed their life.

2. This benefits the text by telling about historical background and MLK goes back in time telling how Abrahm Lincoln

Summer Reading Novel

The book I read over summer for my summer reading was One Shot at Forever by Chris Ballard. This was a great book for people who like baseball or people
who like routing the underdog and who like an improbable season.

Without giving up too much about the book, it's about a high school baseball from Macon, Illinois. A team with a new coach that doesn't really know much about baseball makes a nearly impossible run at state.
